It was a quiet week for the Worcester Railers Jr. Hockey Club’s EHLP team as they played only one game.
In a battle between the top-ranked Railers and the third-ranked Boston Jr. Rangers, it was the Jr. Rangers that came out victorious in a 4-3 overtime win on Saturday night.
The Railers had a 3-2 leading heading into the third period, but after a late goal by the Jr. Rangers, the game was sent into overtime.
Fifty-nine seconds into the game, Max Beaulac (Fitchburg, MA) put the Railers on top 1-0. The Jr. Rangers took over the scoring for the remainder of the first period as they added two goals to take a 2-1 lead.
The second period was all Worcester as they took advantage of two Jr. Ranger penalties scoring two power play goals.
The first came at 8:36 of the second when Jayden Blackburn (Palmer, MA) tied the game at two. Shortly after, the Railers took the lead back when Lars Osterberg (Hingham, MA) scored with assists to Jack Bowers (Bethesda, MD) and Aidan Swain (Richmond, VA).
At 15:02 of the third, the Boston Jr. Rangers scored a power play goal of their own tying the game at three.
Two minutes into overtime, the Jr. Rangers netted the winning goal handing the Railers their second overtime loss of the season.
Next up, the Railers (20-7-2) host the New Hampshire Avalanche at home Friday (6:40 pm) and the Walpole Express Saturday night (8:40 pm).
